Northern MD
So I have been shopping around for pellets in Northeastern MD. Cheapest I have found is 265/ton for Lignetics at a local hardware store. Tractor Supply is 275/ton for Ligs, Ace Hardware @315/ton for Hammers and Lowes is around 273/ton for CleanEnergy after the $25/ton discount. Is this about right with anyone else around the area? Or in general? Any place that you recommend that i may not have checked? I myself think the Ligs at 265 is the best bet for me.

Hi bocephus,

I must ask, where in northern Maryland you are before I can decide if I can help? Maryland is more wide than anything else so are you Oakland area (west) or North/central or more like Rising Sun (east)? I am near Carroll county / Westminster area and have a few favorite places for pellets. $265/ton was reasonible a few months ago. I think $315 is extremely high in our area.

I think so too. That is a VERY good price for Lignetics....I'd buy all I could now while they still have them.

Can't touch Lig's up my way for less than about $275-280.

You got it right on, Im near Rising Sun. Lucky me, huh? ha. Anyway, i thought that was a goog price for Ligs to. I called around today to some more places and found Appling County Pellets for 249/ton. I sampled some last winter and they burned the hottest out of any other brands. Alittle more dirty then others, but i like that 249 pirce. So, thats my update...any thoughts

Most members on this forum feel that Appling County pellets are JUNK! IMO, spend the extra $16/ ton and get a GOOD quality pellet.

But hey, if you like them.....

Yeah, I have noticed that there are more poor reviews about ACP then good. I had more ash then normal, but they were hot. I remember someone saying there is a "new" ACP. Something about a different BTU, is this true? If so what is the new BTU? Perhaps, Ill mix a ton with the tried-and-true Lignetics

Hate to get too local for everyone but did you try the Briarlea place next to the old Cub Cadet dealer?
Also, there are a few places in Quarryville that have them. Also, avoid the tax and go to Bear.

There was a guy who just showed up suddenly over the summer, and tried to convince us that suddenly ACP were great pellets!! Turned out, he was working for a dealer who had a LOT of ACP pellets and was trying to unload them (IMO). He referenced a "test" that was done on the ACP's that said they were good pellets, but when he was questioned and asked to produce the info, suddenly the test results became "top secret", and they were never revealed.....

Yeah Briarlea is where I got all my vent pipe and flashing. I forget what pellet they have, but it is 280/ton. FYI, the place that has Ligs for 265/ton is Rock Spring Hardware, just up the road from Briarlea. They said they had plenty. Anyway, where in Bear do you speak of. All i could find out there is the Lowes that has CleanEnergy. I wasnt to impressed with them tho. Maybe if they were cheaper then 270/ton....

Thanks for the link...does sound fishy. Its weird cause the 10-12 bags i burned seemed fine in my stove. ALITTLE more ash, very hot...but more creasode build up on the door. That link makes me want to take a look at my pipe and blower after burning them... Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, I remember that guy. I just did a search on his screen name then. His join date was 6/29, he posted ten times, and I think his last visit or post was 7/15. That doesn't mean he's a bad guy or that the ACP pellets are necessarily bad. But sales tactics like that sure do make you think.

Like any pellet, make up your own mind but be careful when a pellet does not have a good reputation.

Should be no tax on pellets in MD
