PowerHorse Dual Split 20 ton ?

Been looking at this splitter PowerHorse Dual Split 20 ton Read reveiws and folks seem to like them. Very seldom do we have anything over 24 inches in diameter to split. I like the idea of splitting in both directions. Anyone use one of these and your impresions? We normaly split about 6 cords a year

Our current splitter is about 30 years old and does a good job but it is just way to slow. It has been a tough old bird not a single reweld on it. Been thru two engines and a coupler between the pump and engine. It has a 36 inch cylinder on it which for our old wood stove worked great but now with the ECHO 40 we only need 20 inch wood.

if it aint broke dont buy a new one??? put a faster pump on (one that does more gpm) and size the engine and it will go faster.... also i never retract my arm all the way unless the wood requires me too

I too rarely let the wedge go all the way up. No need to waste that time waiting for it to come back down. It is amazing how much that speeds up the process.

I just got one of these. I have only run three tanks of gas thru it so I can't really say much about the reliability. The instructions were not the best and a few too many plastic fittings for me. But I got it for half price and it has done a good job so far.

I usually don`t let it come back all the way I added a rod that bumps my control valve and stops the ram at 25". This splitter only sits about 18" off the ground so I am allways bending over which gets old. I thought about adding a bigger pump that would mean a bigger engine, and adding bigger tires to raise it up some. When I figure those costs and the price of the PowerHorse splitter by selling my old one I could end up with a newer splitter for not much, that would sit higher and still split faster.
