Pipeline skids

Decades ago when I worked for a water utility, all the skids for the pipe we installed were red oak. Great stuff except that road grit from transport and the job site got into the outer layer so it was hard on blades. I still have chunk of it in my wood rack. It definitely was not kiln dried but burned great.

If its oak, its pretty easy to tell, split it perpendicular to the grain and you should see flecks in the grain.
