Not sure if this should go here but is there any good uses for pine needles.

Zap

Pine needles ('Pine Straw') are a popular mulch. You can buy them by the bale in the south. I never see them for sale around here (Pennsylvania).

Throw some around your blueberries.

Think the bears would mind, I was just wondering if they are good for composting maybe putting them down on trails.

Sav do you think I could make a firestarter called superneedles.

Zap

Zap, I've never tried to burn them except maybe when raking some leaves and pine needles get mixed in. All smoke as far as I could see but there weren't many. Maybe mix some pine needles with was and give it a try?!

If one had a pellet mill I bet they could made into biomass pellets or brickets.

mulch

They tend to make the soil more acidic so any acid loving plant will benefit from the mulch.

Full of Tanic Acid. They burn heck out of a lawn if you don't get them up. Also hard on asphalt roof shingles as well. Having 27 mature pines on my lot is actually a nuisance between the pine needles, pine cones, blanket of yellow pollen and the never ending barrage of limbs every time there is a strong wind. Then you really get to appreciate them when there is an Ice storm........................If they were worth something, I would take them down, but right now we have white and red pine coming out our eyeballs in this area and they aren't even worth messing with.

How about some Pine needle tea
