Question:

My question is concerning the pilot light. It lights up but does not ignite the gas logs. We called a gas log store and they said it may have air in the lines, run it for 15 min. We did (maybe a little less than 15) and still no connection or flames. We just had our tank filled and it was burning without a problem for 2 hours, then suddenly went out. Please let me know what the problem may be it's getting cold ! Thanks

Answer:

There are two things you may want to check:

First , check the following:

Do you hear and small gas flowing when you open the gas valve (after the pilot has been on for awhile)...If so:

Then the problem has to do with the pilot not igniting this gas due to possible obstructions in your burn pan. It's best to have a chimney sweep, HVAC contractor or other experienced professional fix this situation.

If not (no gas flow):

The you either must turn the pilot flame up or reposition it - or replace the thermocouple (the sensor that the pilot light heats up).

There may be directions in your manual for turning up your pilot light and adjusting where the pilot light hits the thermocouple.

If none of the above works, the valve may need replaced. However, one of the above steps should fix the problem.
