I guess the only choice for a somehow halfway decent price in your area are the big box stores.
If you go the route with a local dealer, you probably have to add another 30 to 40dollars per ton plus delivery.
You do have to call the big ones on a daily basis to find out if they have the pellets in stock.
Just watch out for certain bad brands (mentioned on this forum)

The only problem with that is that the "big box stores" around here like HD & Lowes are selling the pellets they do get at $299/ton anyway.....If I DID decide to pay $300, I'd rather go pay a local dealer $310 for Lignetics than $299 for Freedom Fuel or Fireside Ultra or any of the other cheaper grade pellets.

In Lagrange at the intersection of Rte 82 & East Noxon Rd is an Agway - Alleys Agway they had pellets a few days ago. Chimney Sweep Energy in Middletown had 4 different brands of pellets last week for $275 / ton as well.

Just a shout out to my pellet friends in the beautiful Hudson Valley....Wifes a watchin, the chopper, Deffy, and deucedown.

Maybe we can all get together this spring and order a truckload of good pellets and save some $$. There's more pellet heads in the Hudson Valley that would be interested, I'm sure.

Hello: You can also try Sigma-Tremblay in Wappinger Falls - Currenlty they use PA Pellets, LLC $300 ton pick up. I also picked up some great Pennington Pellets at Sam's club in Fishkill for $297 ton.

Hi neighbor,
I'm from Staatsburg and I normally get my pellets from Amanda's in Hudson. This year it was $285 a ton( in the summer) but even last year they always had pellets in stock. Very nice people to deal with. I'd stay away from Ashleys by Marist as he was gonna give me a great deal this past summer and not charge me tax. I told him he wasn't allowed to charge tax and I was told by him that he knows but many people don't know that. Real sweetheart deal.

MACMAN, keep me in mind if your gonna get a truck load.Thanks.

Great response from everyone, I wasn't expecting so many. This might sound like a dumb question, but if you buy pellets from home depot...they are taxed right? My father-in-law, me, and probably a few teachers I work with would be in on ordering pellets for next year!

No, no tax on pellets! There are people who sell pellets that are taking advantage of buyers who don't know that pellets aren't taxable. I went into my local Wally World about 3 weeks ago, as they had gotten 5 tons of Pennington pellets in, and I wanted to find out the price.

Well, they quoted me a price PLUS tax! I informed them they couldn't do that, and they said they had put tax on all the pellets they sold, but they backed down when I asked for the store manager. I think the tax $ was going into sombody's pocket.

Be aware everybody!

I'm going to start a new thread mentioning this.

Don't know for sure, but if you buy wood pellets in Dutchess County-NY or Connecticut it is considered fuel and you pay no sales tax.
Connecticut is no tax on wood pellets as I just got them from there.

Hello everbody I have been burning pellets since 1999. Each year i get my pellets from Tri- county coal in carmel. They deliver to dutchess all the time. .Last year they charged a flat dellivery of 60.00 no matter how many tones you bought. They carry many different brands .I have tried them all. This year i tried Barefoots out of pa.. The best burning pellets i ever had little ash and no clinkers

Hey chopper, do you know what brands they carry besides the Barefoots? And any idea what their delivery "range" is?

Thanks

MM

hey mm I am not sure they cover much of dutchess some of orange to . Depends on what is in stock .In the past i have bought dry creek allegeny L&Gs;

this is my first post here . I bought my pellets last fall at Tractor supply in Highland I pre ordered in August at $235 a ton I got Somerset and have been happy with their performance in the Englander 25 . I don't know who has them in stock as I bought 4 tons and that will get me through the season. If you are going to pay 300 a ton right now go to pelletsales they are 304 per ton delivered. Why lug them yourself?

Hello! There seem to be a lot of us Hudson Valley-ites here!...Hopewell/Wiccopee resident on board. A friend of ours gets his pellets from Milton Alley Agway on Route 82 and Noxon Road (we burn with wood). He's satisfied with their quality and supply.

Any idea what brand pellets they carry, and cost?

I just spoke to the True Value hardware in Milton where i got my ton of hardwood Lignetics this past summer, and their expecting a truckload of them this coming week....I think he said $299/ton, and they ONLY deal with Lignetics, so no bait & switch.

Deffy,

I actually wasn't looking to buy any right now, as i have enough to finish the winter....just called them to see if they still only handled Lignetics. I'll be waiting until springtime before i start buying anything....hopefully the price will be lower. I bought my ton of Lignetics from them last summer at $239/ton.....not sure we're going to see that again.

As for buying a truckload, not sure how that works, and yes, getting them home is another issue. Obviously if you have to rent something to get them home, you'd have to figure that cost into the total and see if it really is worth it.

Hey Vallyites HD in Wapp. tons of stove chow. I think I may like em too. Burning pretty hot and lookin pretty good in the burn pot area so far.... only on the first bag.
And macman I got my 2 tons of Lignetics from Milton True Value, they are pretty good folks.
