Well, to anyone who is in or around the Moncton area (or South East NB), I'd appreciate a heads-up if you know of any retailers who have a few bags in stock.

I've had an order in with Home Hardware for some Eastern Embers for about a month and a half now, and they tell me it could be the end of november. What I don't understand, is reatilers are still receiving shipments...So, I must be really low on the list.

We've just used the last bag we had available, so I guess we're turning on the baseboards or test how well the propane fireplace can heat the place!

Thanks, Guys.

Shane.

Hey Shane,I replied to another post that you also replied to,but I guess maybe you didn't see it perhaps.I'm from the Moncton area and in the second year of "pellet stove world" and probably have a pretty good handle of what is going on.
Sorry to hear that you didn't get a jump on the sale of pellets that Canadian Tire had just about two weeks ago.I had just received a phone call from the local Home Hardware that "no pellets for you!" until maybe Christmas, after I was already on the waiting list for awhile, when I saw the morning flyer from Crappy tire showing pellet stoves for sale....and in fine print underneath were pellets on sale for $4.99 a bag. Well I soon got on the phone....long and the short, the people working at Canadian Tire, both stores, didn't have much of a clue about pellets,or that there was a big shortage.I got my ass in there to get a rain check for green label Lignetics brand from the States(hardwood) which is a very good price for top quality pellets(don't believe me,check the fuel price report for pellets on this site)....and so within a few days they were calling me that they were in! 100 bags..and they burn hot! haven't turned the stove up very high yet because of the high output! I don't recall the regular price of them but might be worth checking out since they have probably the best hope of getting pellets since they are a bigger company...and home hardware has an agreement with Shaw to buy pellets from them...regardless if you go cold or not. Anyways, good to have another local on the forum! pete

Hey, Pete.

Nice to see another on the board :) Thanks for replying...

I was a little stupid, actually. I went on a search a couple of weeks ago for a few bags as I as getting low at that point. All I could find were the Comfy Cozy's at Kent and they still had 10-12 pallets. I, then, only picked up 6 bags at the time thinking I'd go get a few more (I didn't think they were selling). Well, I was wrong of course.

Home Hardware is still telling me the end of November for the Eastern Embers. In the mean time, I've called around to various places with no luck. Maritime Fireplaces is still receiving shipments as is Home depot, although on a reduced frequency. That's why I find it strange Home Hardware hasn't been able to fill my order yet.

This is our first year with the stove. We moved into this house with the stove preexisting at the end of August, So I wasn't aware of the supply problems when I ordered in September...and Home Hardware didn't tell me when I dropped $1000.00 on my order!

Thankfully, we're into a mild stretch right now ;)

Quess it's playing the waiting game for now!

I just got back from town and thought I'd try the Canadian Tire store to see what they are saying.Apparently they have 2000 rain checks issued for the pellet sale and say that orders will be filled by April...if they can. I'd keep my foot on the list you have..also Shaw store on Collishaw street in Moncton gets first crack at pellets but no deal on price till 3 tons or pallets ...can't recall which. You didn't say which part of N.B. you are from. You paid $1000.00 for what?

Hey, Pete.

Wow...2000 rain checks. Crazy.

I'm in Lower Coverdale, just about 10 minutes from the new bridge.

Ordered 2 pallets (140 bags), so almost 3 tonnes for a little under 1000 including delivery (plus $25 deposit for each wood pallet...thought that was stupid). I believe, per bag, it was 5.69.

I have no intention to take my name off the list. I didn't realize that Maritime Fireplanes had first dibs...that makes sense and explains some things.

not Maritime fireplaces...the shaw store on Collishaw, where they sell brick and stone mostly.
The price you mentioned is what Downeys Home hardware was selling pellets for...plus the deposit....we used them last year.
I also live in Lower Coverdale...past Mud Creek a ways....small world ain't it!!!!!

We have a new outfit here on the Island making pellets for local consumption....very small operation I think they are making a few tons a day but it will really help with shortages here...reports are they burn pretty good but haven't heard about prcies yet.....but it is 6.49/bag for Comfy Cozy from Kent!!

Good to hear from you peirhead...I would have to say that these Lignetics hardwood pellets are really great since they give off a lot of heat, the ash is like whisker dust...very light grey, non staining and doesn't foul up the front glass like the others...plus there is less of it.I hope Canadian Tire will continue to source them. I'd give Comfy Cozy last place in my opinion for quality and would only take them as a very last resort. Now that the price of oil has dropped,it would seem to reason that as far as Shaw pellets that aren't even made yet,it is hard to justify the dollar plus increase from last year if production costs are lower....I hate getting shafted or seeing others get it as well.Used to be $4.49 per bag on a pallet of 70..these prices approacing 6 bucks are nuts! By the way,I didn't know there was an abundance of wood in the Island, but even a small operation doesn't need that many trees.

Hey guys, I'm in Dieppe and have been feeling the difficulties in getting pellets. Home Depot has said they are planning on getting their pellets every other wed. The next delivery is tentatively scheduled for nov 12. I picked up 50 bags of Kents comfy cozy pellets and I wouldn't bother unless you're out, I find they have low heat output. I did manage to get 20 bags of Eastern Embers from home depot from their last shipment and the difference between the comfy and the eastern is like night and day. The eastern burnt much hotter.

I have 2 tons (100 bags) mostly Eastern Embers from Home Depot and Home Hardware, and a few comfy cozy...won't be buying more till I get my stove and start using them up, then I'm going to try out the local brand.

Have you guys tried stores like TSC, Rona, Lowes, Home Improvement...stuff like that? How about maybe posting the same question on Kijjiji.ca? Someone must have a good supply :)

I tried a couple bags of hardwood pellets(Lignetics), and it seemed to me that they burned hotter, but I will need to do some more testing, now that I have one of Gutterboys fancy thermometers--which, BTW, I paid full price for--Ha

Hey, Pete.

Yes, small world indeed! We're just off the Niagra Road on Manor Ridge. I'm not familar with your location (lived on the other side of the river until now..lol).

So....I called home hardware AGAIN. This time they said probably not until January! Nice of them to call and let us know. I'm off tomorrow, so I'm going in to cancel my order and get the money refunded. Then, Going to contact the Shaw Store and Maritime Fireplaces to see what they think. Talk about frustrating...I wish I knew of the supply problems earlier...

Shane.

You mean you live just off the "ni-gary road" as the locals call it...yeah I'm just a mile or two away closer to town. You should get your money back AND be able to stay on the list. Thats the thing. They are making you gamble and it is not fair.Plus they've had your money in their hands in good faith. What other business makes you pay and then jerks you around on delivery. I really don't have any better advice other than keeping abreast of the shipments coming in....making a lot of calls. If your other source of heat is electricity,I wouldn't sweat it too much since it is probably nearly as cheap....its gotta be close.I have all the thermostats as electronic digital ones and can tabulate the weekly usage. At around 9 cents or so per kilowatt hour, vs a 5 dollar bag of pellets, I have to be stingy with the pellets. Last year I went too gung ho and needed more by xmas...not very economical! I expect a lot of people will hoard pellets this year and next year they will be sitting in the stores collecting dust....and hopefully a bit cheaper!

$6.49 for a bag?
At those prices I think I will have to serioulsy look for alternatives. In less than three years the price has almost *DOUBLED* and it keeps getting worse.
The maritimes as usual have it bad. :(

I'm in Carleton County in New Brunswick and pellets are scarcer than hen's teeth.

Any news of availability in Fredericton? Anywhere in the province? Or even close locations in Maine. We're ready to have them shipped across the province. We ran out of pellets last week. :( Cold snap is coming.

I saw pellets for sale in Ontario on kijiji but the price was nothing to write home about...imagine the shipping.
Hopefully the pellets will start flowing soon. I'd be mad as heck if I knew that they were still shipping them to Europe when we are freezing here at home, regardless of the price. Maybe an email to the Premier is an order, although they don't seem to recognize pellets as a viable heat source yet...
As soon as anyone sees some....kindly post it!!!!

I'm in Presque Isle and there seem to be lots of pellets around this area right now. I just paid $265 for a ton and MPG for the Northeast Pellets that are made right here in our area.

Did anyone see on the ATV news about the line-up in Halifax I think it was, where there was this huge line-up of cars getting pellets on a first-come ,first serve basis.Guys were leaving work to get them, people were filling their back seats....Monday morning I believe. The pellets were Comfy Cozy....nothing to write home about.

I saw that news clip. It was Piercies that had the pellets. Sure made me happy to have my 4 tons(and dwindling) stashed in my basement. But I have a rain check from CTC for their $4.99 bags, if/when they ever get them in.

My Father-in-law was at Home Depot the other day for another purpose, but they happened to have some pellets, o he picked us up 20 bags. Just lucky he was there at the right time.

These batch of Eatern Embers seem of better quality than the Eastern Embers I was burning before: they're nice and short and feeding well...I can actually set my stove on low and it will stay running. Imagine my surprise.

I still have my order in with home hardware. I called around and most places weren't even taking orders any longer, so no sense cancelling that order.

Finally.

I received a an unexpected call from Home Hardware this morning--our pellets are in. They will be delievered sometime in the next day or two. I thought I was looking well into January before I'd get my hands on them.

Now...I gotta go out, on my first day off in a while, and get the garage put in order for storage.

Stupid Home Hardware...getting my pellets in. ;)

yes,I checked and I guess they are spoken for...but my name is back on the list.Did the price go up any? I didn't ask.I hoping that the new mill down country will be running as I was told it should be in a couple of weeks and I will get to try them instead-hardwood.Saw a large Irving container go by yesterday, there may be a connection I wonder? Apparently they work together sometimes.
