Question:

Is there any information that compares pellet stoves to coal stoves. My husband and I are thinking of getting a pellet stove but he wants to find information on comparisons? is there a Stove magazine of some kind?

Answer:

There is no literature to this effect, however, the basics follow:

1. Coal is usually cheaper than Pellets (per BTU)
2. Pellets Stoves require Electric, most Coal stoves don't
3. Coal stoves need full chimney, pellet stoves can be direct vented.
4. Pellet Stoves cost more than coal stoves.

I am speaking about anthracite (hard coal) stoves.

You should do a comparison of the fuel prices at the link below.
