Hello,
I have a 2200 sq ft single story home with an aging propane furnace. I recently acquired a barely used Harman Absolute 63 that I'm looking to install as a secondary heat source and backup for when my propane furnace fails. I'm looking for some advice on placement. I'm currently planning to put the stove in the center of my house to help with more even heating, and also near my cold air return for the furnace so I can use the furnace fan to distribute heat. The only thing that makes me question my placement is having to run my vent through the ceiling/roof. I've installed wood stove chimney's so I'm confident I can do it, but it's more work and expense than going through wall. I'll also be pushing 12-15 feet to get through my roof and up enough which makes me lean towards 4" vent pipe. I'm looking for some advice on the following questions.
1) Does location #1 in the attached picture seem like an ideal location? #2 is another where I would be able to do through-wall, but is on one end of my house and I don't think it would get heat to the bedrooms. We also spend the majority of time in location #2 so I'm worried it would burn us out.
2) Given the price of pellet stove vents, I've considered running 6" class a chimney starting at my ceiling and through the roof. In this scenario I would run 3 or 4" vent up to the ceiling and adapt there. This would give me flexibility for a wood stove if I ever wanted to change. Any thoughts on doing this?
3) I think I'm going to be right around 15', maybe a little less, of vent pipe if I can get straight up through my trusses and rafters. I'm thinking to go with 4" in case I need to add any 45 deg offsets in the attic. Thoughts on 4" vs 3"?
Thanks in advance for any replies!
