Pellet Hopper & Sifter....anyone ever use one of these?

Just saw an ad on Craig's list for someone selling this. It holds (7) 40lb, bags of pellets. It screens out fines as you fill a bucket.

Anyone have one, or use one? Opinions?

Very interesting. A little expensive for me but I don't have a problem with fines.

I was curious...they don't mention or show how you get the fines out of the thing.

I've seen these before....dont know anyone using them but however..... to pricey for me as well to justify. I never sift my pellets, the auger in my Quad moves any fines if I have any up the chute and into the pot.....I've never had a jam at all.

I agree on the price...I'd never consider it new. But the guy selling the one I saw on CL was considerably less $$.

As for how the fines get sifted out, when you press down on the front edge of the chute, the pellets fall from the hopper across a grate that has small holes in it.....the fines fall through that onto the ground/floor, or in the case of the one I saw, onto an old paint roller tray underneath it.

somthing like this may work we sell it for sifting corn but works with pellets as well i use one in my lab at work. http://www.englanderstoves.com/corn_sifter.html

That's not a bad idea. From the picture it looks I could take a old tower-style computer housing and make one by inserting a screen inside on a slant...hmmm!

My dealer has one in his showroom and he loves it. He fires all of his stoves for customers and keeps one going all the time in the winter.

not hard to make , we use 2 screens though remember its designed primarily for corn which has husk and other larger pieces that get caught at the top allowing the corn through with small debris then the corn slides down a screen with smaller mesh openings to allow the "dust" and little stuff to fall through into one bucket and the cleaned fuel falls into the second one. could be made from wood even instead of metal.
