The gasket has about an 1/8 inch gap where the 2 ends meet and it leaks air. Can I put a blob of gasket cement or other sealant there to block the gap or do I have to replace the gasket which otherwise is in good shape?
Thanks

Yes, try filling the gap with a little blob of RTV there.
