Oyster shells - Do they help with pellet stoves?

Oky, I heard the other day that when burning a mix of corn in our pellet stove, we should sprinkl in some oyster shells.
This is suppose to help prevent clinkers?
Has anyone else heard this and is there any truth to it?
If it does work, why not use 'em?...
