We're displaying at the Crawford County Fair here in Northwestern PA this week, and I thought I would share a disturbing conversation I had with a guy from the booth next door. It was actually the first conversation I had here with anyone about the boilers... on the very first day.
Sooo... I'm just getting set up and this guy walks over to me and starts asking about the boilers. I start to explain the process of wood gasification, secondary combustion, thermal storage, etc., and he seems pretty interested at first. Then he begins to comment on his outdoor wood boiler and how much he likes it... and that's ok... lots of people have them and are very satisfied with them. But then... then he starts telling me all about why he loves it so much, and all the different things he can burn in it like 20 cord of green wood per year, garbage, dirty diapers, tires, and the occasional deer carcass. His buddy standing next to him actually pointed to the Scandtec Solo Plus we have on display and said "you'd be hard pressed to even get a deer carcass in that little firebox."
Really? Are you serious?
I kid you not... that's exactly what he said... and I know where this guy lives... and he does have neighbors who have got to be affected by this. It's this type of attitude and mindset that ruins the good name of wood burning for all of us. The problem is, this isn't even just about someone being ignorant or uneducated about the fact that better or cleaner systems exist... it's just sheer lack of respect for your neighbor. And what he doesn't realize, or maybe he does, is that what he's doing, even though he is likely in the minority of wood burners, just fuels the agenda for more regulation on all of us.
what do you do?
cheers.
