My stove has an optional air intake at the bottom. The stove works great as is and I don't have that part hooked up. Should I be blocking this hole or is it pulling in air from my home to heat? Thanks for your advice.

Yes, it is pulling home air for combustion. Connect it to an outside air vent per the manual or leave it open. Don't block.
