I just found and purchased a P&M Optimizer 250 that has been sitting in a shed for 15 years, never burned. Lots of threads related to this unit in this forum, better and worse. Kind of a unique opportunity here to ask folks who have been through a complete life cycle of one of these what mistakes I should try to avoid making as I hook this up and start into this. Background . Heating 5000 sf mix of in floor, forced air, DHW. I burn mainly kiln died cutoff and scrap from my next door neighbor, truss manufacturing facility. I plan to isolate the stove with a heat exchanger from my existing system to allow it to stay HOT. I do not anticipate extended idle times but would be pleasantly surprised if that was a problem. Currently burning a Aquatherm 275 I have to fill about five times a day. Any suggestions appreciated… and when I say never burned, I mean it literally like like showroom floor. Price tag is still on the front and no smoke whatsoever.

Think about adding storage to your system then any extra heat can be stored
