We just installed a Jotul Winterport insert and have a question on wood. I work for a metal fabricator and we receive metal strapped into bundles. To protect the metal wood pieces are use against the metal and traps.
The wood is from 22” long and I can me 2x 2 or 2x1. Looks to be very soft pine. I assume it is not seasoned. My question is should I use a supplement to my hard woods?

I'd use it for kindling...it is going to go up fast and hot.

I wouldn't bother but, yes, it is OK to use that wood.
