Ok. So before I start. I have been searching this site about this post for a while and can’t quite find anything with my situation. Let me start by saying. The wood stove I’m burning in was in the house when I bought it. It is a Quaker Moravian insert. The owners of the house before me had a chimney fire a year or two before I bought the house. Since then they installed a brand new liner in the chimney. He had all the paper work and never burned after the chimney fire. Every time I burn. Doesn’t matter if it’s hot burn or a cooler burn, there is an off putting smell in the smoke coming out the chimney. Almost like a plastic, chemical smell to the smoke. I’m burning season wood with low moisture. Primarily ash, oak and cherry. Doesn’t matter the wood. Smoke still has an off putting smell. I guess my question is, since I’m sure this has been covered. But could the smell I’m smelling with the smoke have anything to do with the chimney fire that occurred previously? I just don’t know why I can’t get rid of the off putting smell coming out the chimney. (I have been burning out of the stove for 3 years now) It stinks outside when I burn, I just want to see if you guys knew of anything I could do to try and get rid of the smell or anyone have a similar situation that might know why the smell occurs.

Sounds like a really up close and personal visual inspection is needed. If it has never been used until now could there be some gasketing material or other material that needs to "cure" ? Or, maybe the labels or UPC codes were left on the metal parts?

This or was any compound used on the joints or flue collar?
