If you have some 2x4 cutoffs, they make great kindling if split with a hatchet into thinner pieces. Cabinetry and finishing scraps also work well. You might also try top down lighting of the fire. Watch the the Efficient Wood Stove Operation video here for a primer:

That's a baffle protector.
You need the 3" side facing you, the 1" side rest on top of the leading edge of the ceramic blanket.
The two "tabs" are supposed to be screwed down behind the first burner tube. You should have two screws for it left over from your install.

if they left it like that then maybe you should check your burner tubes that they're placed correctly. Each burner tube is different except for two.
The one with the largest holes should have two holes behind it that will match the "tabs" on your baffle protector. Obviously this tube goes in front.

Tubes are welded, so they can't be moved. Tube closest to door has largest holes. Can't figure out how it is supposed to go.
Are you saying that it should go over the last tube, under the fiberboard?

rest the two tabs directly on top of the first burner tube, then pivot the metal upwards while slightly lifting the leading edge of both baffle boards.

you can use a ruler to assist lifting the baffle board while you pivot the channel up.

Yours is the newer ACC model.
