Just ordered 3 tons to get delivered on Saturday - impressed, he' bringing them 70 miles.

I called him today and he was in my driveway in less than an hour with two tons. Great guy who opted into the pellet business at the wrong time. Great personality. Great attitude given the situation. Recommend him highly. He's driving 70 miles to bogieb because he has friends and family there to visit.

Hello everyone. I'm the guy with the Craigslist add. Certainly not the best year for this startup. Who would have expected after what we've all gone through for years that pellets would go from "can not find" to "can not sell" in about 7 months. I now find it slightly comical that all the pellet manufactures were refusing to sell to me last summer. A bit of history on this decision. After 13 years of burning pellets and having my trucks damaged and finding poor quality pellets available if any I decided to fix it. My thinking was that I have the space, time and money to deliver in the fall and winter so why not, it would subsidize the machine I wanted for my summer business, Apex Tent Rental. I found a wholesaler and bought 260 tons. 10 26 ton truckloads, 3 NEWP, 7 Okanagan Gold. If we had this talk last winter I doubt any of us would have guessed the current warm winter and low home heating oil cost was a possible outcome.
So here we are, I'm currently wholesaling around 50 tons for a couple of reasons. I'm going to put the balance of my inventory indoors and I don't have enough space and I spent a whole lot of money on inventory so I'd rather lose about $40-50 per ton than be cash poor. Sometimes new business ventures don't go as planned.
Moving forward I expect to do this for years to come, this year was an abnormality.

Admire your perseverance. Hope it turns around for you next season.

Honestly, I think it will take another year to shake out. I'd expect the manufactures have a surplus after they have all scaled up to alleviate the shortages. I'll likely not buy as much next year if any and build a customer base, then just add a bit year on year hoping this doesn't happen again. I went all in. Oops.

I may be broke but it sure is warm in here. ;)

It certainly was.... And it will be difficult to sort out the best strategy for next season.
One thing that may happen. The BBS stores may do the opposite of what they did this year.
two winters ago, they ran out, this winter, they over bought... Next year, they may scale back..
But who the heck knows.. Our strategy is to not worry about what they do.
It is cyclical, though, no doubt.
Offer good stuff, reasonably priced, and they will come.
Best of luck, and hope we have a cold winter next season!

While he was unloading I mentioned the Pellet Mill. I'm glad he decided to drop in.

Go slow, and watch it grow...
It takes a while to build a solid, loyal base. But once there, for the most part,
they will return. If they like your product, and service, many don't care
what the BBS do.
Kind of like finding that favorite breakfast place.
Once you find it, it's automatic.!

A second forum that may generate customers of high quality pellets is: www.hearth.com
Orson - Just to let you know, this forum does not allow linking to the other forum, nor mention by name. Or did you think you were over there linking to here? ;)
