Newbie Needs Help with Pellet Insert

Hi Experts!

Hoping to get some information on which pellet insert would be best for me at my cabin. I've been reading and trying to learn, but I would still appreciate your guidance.

2 pictures attached of current setup. One on inside showing the direct vent LP fireplace. One on outside showing the direct vent to the deck.

Home built in 2004. There is no chimney and no roof protrusion. Believe that LP fireplace was installed when home was built. Guessing that LP fireplace is just built into a fake looking surround? Probably 2x4 construction under the stone?

Goal is to avoid as much construction/home modification as possible. Basically looking for a model that is most Plug and Play. Also don't want to wish for more heat after I do this work....so willing to fit the biggest unit into the opening.

1. How do I get the old one out? Guess I need to remove the stone and find how it's connected to the 2x4s?
2. Do I need a zero clearance model pellet stove?
3. Is some kind of enclosure or box required?
4. Can I use the same hole in the wall for venting?
5. How far out from the exterior wall does it need to stick out? (People do walk by this area as it's on a deck)
6. Which models would you recommend for easiest install?

What else should I be asking or worried about? Happy to take measurements or provide other info if it will help me out.

What is the length, width and depth of the opening the unit is in. You should go out and up through the soffit as the deck is flammable.

33 high
Current fireplace is 16 deep on inside.

Leave the stone alone. Shut off the propane and you're going to have to disassemble the propane insert. You probably aren't going to get it out without damaging it. You may or may not have the proper clearances after removing the insert.

I also figured out the existing unit is a White Mountain DVS-30-2. Don’t anyone buy one. They’re horrible

By disassemble, you mean cut it out?

Maybe I can just cut the mounting tabs off the front?

If rather sacrifice the fireplace than have to mess with stone, etc.

The surround on the insert will cover the width but not the height as it is. I might consider build ing the bottom up with brick until it were high enough that the surround also enclosed the top. Make sure to kill the power and start unscrewing what ever you can of the frame and then rip it out but don't disturb the brick.

I think the deck was built after the fireplace was there.
