I would start by just reading through the forum. Most general wood stove advice will apply. Then, people here are really good about answering specific questions.

2 things first... before you burn make sure you have dry wood. Your stove will be less picky about it than a more modern stove but it is still important. Second, you want to make sure your chimney is safe before you use your stove. That is even more important than the first, but the first can take time. To make sure your chimney is safe, the best way is to have a certified sweep inspect it and/or clean it for you.

Agree with Mongo, once you know the flue is gtg get a couple of CO detectors. I always have 1 in the room with the stove and 1 in our bedroom. Once that is taken care of, enjoy the warm and toasty world of wood fired warmth.

Thanks and yes. On the plus side I know the owner used it last week. She left us wood and kindling inside and a half a cord in the wood shed. I need to figure out the dampers and such for this stove.

Looks like a M520 which is what we have.
The only cast iron on the stove is the doors, the rest is steel plate.
Should have a fire brick baffle and while not as efficient as the newer stoves they are impressive in their heating ability. We really like ours.
