Hi. I just had a Harman Accentra Insert installed in early October. It is now getting cold enough to start using it for heating. I was wondering if anyone could suggest settings to keep about 1800 square feet comfortable without wasting fuel. We got this to save on heating oil. The fireplace is centrally located in the main living space and we would like it to heat the up stairs area as well. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Each home is different.

the general rule of thumb is to set the feed rate dial to 3 and then set the temperature dial to a comfortable spot

the only reason to adjust the feed rate is:

if you have unburnt pellets falling into the ashpan, turn the feedrate down (probably won't happen, unless you are running super-dry corn or something)

If the stove isn't making temerature, and the fire seems to gutter down periodically, try turning the feedrate up (if you are burning industrial grade pellets or, pellets that are junk)

remember, the feed rate you set is the 'maximum feedrate' that the stove will use, when 'measured temperature' is way below 'set temp'. otherwise, it will feed at a fraction of that rate
