Hello
My neighbor just found this cleaning his garage!
People do not use these much anymore but I used mine a lot! I always soldered the wires in my old Red 1968 Buick Grand Sport with one! I loved that car! I also raced it and did 16 secs in the quarter mile on Sunday at the local Drag Strip!
How many of you have one of these Weller kits???

I have a comparable Sears unit, still use it occasionally. I last used it to repair a plastic item, since it has that tip.
I received it as a gift in the early 70s, and it still works great. I adapted it to use the Weller tips.

And here I thought I was the only one that used an antique like this. Still have in plastic case too. I bought mine in the late 70’s when I worked in a bodyshop.

I have four, two purchased by my father (likely before I was born), which I wore out doing train sets and car wiring in my youth, and another two I bought as an adult. Two in each size.

I prefer an iron on the work bench, but nothing beats these for working in the garage.

I have 3 of them all in their original cases
One from my Father 1 from my Father-in-law and
1 I bought in the late 60s still use it now and then
for tight places when the butane one is out of gas
or don't want to burn something up

I have one, I use 14 gauge copper wire from romex. Its been dropped once long ago and patched with epoxy putty. Hard to beat a classic.

I have my dad's (1919 - 2010).

Weller web site has tips that look like they fit. Listing states that they are for older guns.

Do any of you know a good source of tips for these guns? What I've found at all the usual stores needed to be altered to fit.

I just strip the conductors from 14-2 Romex scraps and bend them to shape with pair of pliers. I tin them with solder and they are good to go.

Edit: for some reason my browser keeps changing the URL to a media link, no matter how many times I edit to fix it. Perhaps a mod can fix it.
