Makita 6800i with a 20" Oregon Powermatch bar and pro 3/8 chain. Brand spankin new for $550 out the door. First chainsaw so I'm pumped to go use it. I was in the market for a Dolmar 5105 but he mentioned this 68cc saw for 500 as he just had the power unit. And then 50 for the bar and chain, installed and tuned. Said he just happened to come across one and that they eliminated the 68cc saw this year so its a discontinued model.

Question is one, good deal or...? And two, started it for the first time yesteday and in idle it seemed to make a metal pinging noice sometimes... Is this normal or does the RPMs need to be tuned a little more on idle?

Thanks!

Dolmar. I'm not sure, but I think they discontinued that model.

edit: I read through your post again, you already knew it was discontinued...sorry.

BTW: Amicks, for example, sells the 7300 for $770, they sell the 6400 for $570. Yours would be in the middle somewhere, so I'd expect $650 range, since it's discontinued---less. I'd say you got a good deal.

Ahh the clutch. So I guess that's mechanically ok haha. And thanks, yes I do think I got a deal. $100 bucks more for the saw size I REALLY wanted compared to the saw I'd be happy with (449 5105). Plus a better than stock bar and chain with tax included in the OTD price (6.25%)...

12 acres of cutting land awaits!!

Congratulations on the new saw. The pinging noise is the tabs on the clutch drum that drive the oiler.

If it lasts 10 yrs good deal. If it blows up the day the warantee expires? Not so good. Only time spent cutting will really tell. Good Luck!!
