I am putting a one level barndominium on my property (no electric) - basically a steel building which I will insulate and frame inside. I was thinking to design my inside build around a wood burning stove, putting it in the middle. Is this a bad idea? Is it better to have it situated near a wall?

Are some types of wood stoves better than others for this application? Are cook stoves any good?

This property is mainly used during the winter (Alabama). It can get to single digits but typically the coldest it has ever been when we’re there is 25

Thanks for any help!

Central is the best for heat distribution usually. But on a wall can absolutely work

Will the space be kept warm or will you be starting with a cold building most of the time? It takes a lot of btus to go from 30 degrees to 70. If your doing that all the time get a big non cat stove. If you are planning to try and keep it warm continuously a big cat stove that can be run slow once the place is warmed up is the way to go.

I’ve wanted one of the Dolet cook stoves. Not the giant one. That’s what I would choose

We will be starting up cold and we would need the heat constantly about a week at a time.

Very nice, I like the dual purpose heat/cooking
And it’s on sale! I’d have thought time choosing this or the bigger one. More insulation and this one would be maybe my choice. I heat 2000sq ft with a 1.7 cu ft stove.

The benefit of in the middle is less chimney pipe outside. Better for temps and cost. Also better for draft (not going horizontal out the wall).
