Hi everyone im new to all this and dont know the correct terminology for most things so i apologise!

Im just needing some help really with the correct way to insulate my fireplace

Ive recently moved into a new home. The fire is electric but at the back the gap has been sealed with some very large silver foil insulation tape which looks really horrible and detracts all the attention away from the lovely fireplace. Im just wanting to know if there is anything else i can seal it with that will look nicer but insulate too

Greetings. If it is strictly an electric fireplace I would think that silicone would seal it. The question is what is the tape hiding, a small crack or something larger? Can you post a picture?
