Need help with Defiant VC 1910

Hi,
On each side of the Refractory Assy are heat deflectors. The Tear Down Rebuild Instruction don't mention their exact placement. If their installed up against the Refractory Assy. it blocks the opening on the bottom of the left side, that doesn't seem right. I need some advice on exact placement. I greatly appreciate your help.
