As my first post I thought I'd share before starting the asking. Here is my wood shed. I'll post another picture after I clean up and organize the right side.
My Dad and I built it. Its the first thing ive built and we deffinetly learned things along the way. The frame is treated wood and the siding is cedar. It holds a bit less then 2 cords which is all I will need with our mild winters (I hope). We built it last spring and this will be my first winter with seasoned wood.
Last year I had a small amount of seasoned pine and a pick up load of scrap untreated lumber. Plus the green stuff I scrounged so it wasnt a great year for fires. This years been MUCH better.
I'm on Vancouver Island so my local selection of wood is very different then most of you. Last year I scrounged a cedar, a fir, a poplar and an alder tree. I also got a few unidentified rounds as pictured below, a smallish plum tree with lots of limbs and a few rounds of arbutus. The arbutus tree is hardly mentioned on this forum but I believe it would compete with any other top wood.
I know some if those are lower quality woods but they (the poplar and alder) have been great during this shoulder season. They burn a little fast but the house gets more then hot enough.
I don't own a saw so I was happy to get that much wood already bucked all I did was split it.
This year so far Ive got an oak score which is really rare here as those trees (garry oak) are protected and there's lots of paperwork to take a sick one down. I also got a load of birch and another few rounds of cedar. I thought I had to stay 1 year ahead which is looking good but it sounds like I should keep at it. I'm hoping the oak is good for next year but from what I've read I'm not going to count on it.
