I picked up this 1972 IH Cub Cadet 149 last month. I plan to replace my IH Cub Cadet 125 with it once I get all the bugs out of it. It was offered as a parts machine on Craig's List, but I knew that it takes a lot to kill these old Kohler pwered Cubs.

It is 14 hp with a hydrostatic transmission and hydraulic lift. It did not run or drive when I brought it home, but with fresh fuel, a new battery, hydraulic fluid and filter change it is running pretty nicely now. Who said that the new stuff is no better than the old stuff. This '72 is much nicer than the old '68 it will replace.

How much does something like that weigh?

I think around 600 lbs. lots of cast iron on these old machines. They were built to last forever back then.

Sweet. Look like it has good power too.
Great ground clearance, nice sized tires, looks well made.
You could get/make a plow for it (if you ever get snow again. )

I would have guessed even higher, but that's plenty of weight to get some traction and not destroy the yard when the ground is soft.

My ATV weighs 600 and hardly leaves a footprint...but my ZTR mower tips the scales at almost 1200...too heavy when the ground is soft, even with 12" wide rear tires.

I have a 42" plow for both of them and a snow thrower that will fit either of them. The snow thrower would put snow on the roof of my house with the 12 hp machine. I imagine it will be even better with this 14 hp one.

I did some looking around, in 1972 IH claimed the shipping weight of this machine was 870 lbs. Its a pretty substantial machine. With tire chains, these old machines can push some serious snow.
