[Hearth.com] My class A stove pipe is a hair short of 2 inches
I’m reading this as 2 inches but I’ve been told you need to pull the tape to get an accurate measurement. If I pull the tape it reads 1 and 15/16. Is a 16th of an inch realistically an issue? There is also going to be a joist shield between this class A pipe and the framing. It’s my first chimney install and I want to make sure it’s done properly. Thanks in advance!

It's probably ok. If you want to be sure, measure with something more precise than the tape.

The tape has rivets that allows the tab on the end to slide. The amount it slides is the thickness of the tab. It doesn't matter if you push it against something or hook it, you'll get an accurate measurement.

Thank you for the advice! I knew I was probably over thinking but wanted to check first. We were able to bang the block with a hammer and measure with a metal ruler and it is exactly 2” now

That^^
