this is my second week with this unit, i am burning softwood pellets, manual setting, heat output set to max 5, flame hight -3 which is mid to upper diamond flame hight, some times it cycles a little higher then dies back down, convection blower set to normal, softwood setting, unit runs 2 + hours before cycling off, temp diff 2.
i am heating 2800 sq ft, 2 floors with no problem, 2 bags a day, outside air temp +12. i noticed tonight that the plastic pellet liner under the cover closest to the front of the stove where the heat exchanger is located is so hot that you can not hold your hand on it, is this normal?

mine seems to get warm, but i don't run on manual 5 either

Mine will get fairly warm on manual high. I wouldn't be too concerned, the plastic is similar to the material they use in producing Fireman's helmets and is rated for this type of heat.

I wish mine was hot. It's sometimes slightly warm, but often cool. I've been running a different thread about a problem with lack of heat despite running on +5 flame height. THis sounds like one more reason to convince me that something is wrong with my stove. I'm gonna pass this along to the service dude the next time we chat.

thanks to all for the feed back. i talked to my dealer who called the factory, they said it does get hot but nothing to wory about, normal operation. they also said that there is a snap disk that will shut the unit down if temp get to high, i assume that it is some kind of thermo sensor. thanks again to all for the input great forum and members. zoecat
