In The Woods
With the warm weather we had I'm able to get up top, attached are some pictures of a old sugar maple (first two pictures) in the third picture we have some ironwood bent over plus some leaners and another quaking aspen for the shoulder season.

If the sugar maple is all bad it will stay and rot.

I don't know Zap. That maple looks like something I'd just let lay there and rot because it has already started that process very well.

Looks like I have an ironwood about that same size that has to be cut.

Gotta agree w/ BS - that Sugar Maple will make better fertilizer for the surrounding trees then it will firewood. On a side note I usually enjoy looking at your pics Zap but this set is depressing, I'm a snowmobiler (use Tupper as my home base) & hate to see the lack of snow.............have a trip planned for 1/13 - 1/16 & judging from your pics it's not looking good. Oh well, there's still time between now & then for a good dumping!

I agree on the Sugar Maple, we did have 21 inches before the big melt but I'm not sure about Tupper. Tupper gets more snow than us and today they are calling for 1.8 inches.

Upper Tupper or Lower Tupper?

Big Tupper - my family has a place on the lake & I've been "stomping around" there since 72'. You're up near Canton right ??........we sometimes ride from Tupper to South Colton or Deer Valley Trails & back, nice area you live in!!

Regardign snow - yeah I usually find the Tupper / Cranberry area has more snow then the "other / Northern side of the hill" where you are.......amazing how different the weather patterns can be within such a short distance as the crow flies. Tupper had quite a bit too but expirienced the same warm temps & rain over New years as you did. Anyway thanks for the weather report - 1.8" is a start!!

Woodadict where do you call home? I am near New Paltz but grew up near Potsdam, spent a lot of time on the Blue Mountain road near Deer Valley trails. We had a cabin up there before the restaurant was there. Now I spend at least a week every year on Lowes lake near Tupper camping, it is really nice up in that neck of the woods for sure.

Hi Skinn - I'm a little South & West of you in the Warwick / Chester area but I consider Tupper my home away from home. I certainly know Loews Lake, small world Hugh?

Are you in New Paltz proper or outside of it? Used to do a lot of hunting in Olive Bridge near the Shokan reservoir....nice area.

I am just North of New Paltz off of rt 32. I hunt the Shokan reservoir area as well, there is so much property up there to hunt it is unreal!
