More Shoulder Season Wood

We've been clearing for a new detached garage so we'll have more pine for shoulder season wood.

We took down another two pine today, we plan on replanting with some cedar I hope.

We felled two trees with the first cleaned up, we decided that we would run into town today instead of tomorrow morning so I'll take care of the second tree in the morning.

After I take care of the second tree we'll fell another pine tomorrow. I did move the utility trailer out of the woods so we would have more room for pine logs.

We'll either have a guy come in with a big chipper or rent one so we can use the chips on the trails.

The area the garage will go is pretty much cleared so the next step will be the removal of the stumps.

I took the logs from yesterday to the firewood pile and two over to the milling pile but before that I took three loads of branches to our holding area for branches until we chip them.

We felled the tree with a cable attached ( in pic 1351) and then I limbed it up so I can move the logs to the bucking pile.

We had 28 for a low with another 1.5 inches of snow overnight.

I move the pine logs to the pine pile from the tree we felled a couple of days ago and then cleaned up some pine branches.

After doing the above we decided to fell three trees to the east of where the garage will be, I limbed them up and called it a day. I'll move the logs tomorrow morning before we clean the area up again before we fell another five trees to the west of where the garage will be which will leave us with 3 or 4 more before the job is done.

In picture 1359 you can see the trees we felled later this afternoon.

Same old chit just a different day, I moved the logs from yesterday and took some pine branches to the pile and then we felled two more trees in picture 1363 and took the logs to a new pile.

In picture 1364 there's about 3 to 4 trees that will come down tomorrow (bad picture but a great day) the tree behind the pine branches in picture 1365 & 66 we want down before we start digging the stumps and the last tree to come down (I hope) will be the pine behind the stacks in picture 1367.

It's about to get wet around here which we need, AccuWeather is calling for around an inch of rain Wednesday & Thursday.

Today I spent time cleaning up the area, in pictures 1369 & 70 you can see we still have ice underneath the chips. The last thing we did was fell three smaller trees that were to the west of the garage, all were limbed up and two were removed along with the branches.

Tomorrow will be a wet one but I'll be out cleaning up the area so we can get ready for the last 4 or 5 trees that we plan on felling.

We still have frost in the ground in certain areas where I need to remove stumps so hopefully the rain brings it out. This morning was the first in a long time the temp was above freezing.

I didn't get many pictures before the rains started and then a unscheduled trip to town happened. I did more cleanup (three loads of branches not pictured) along with some smaller logs.

If it isn't too bad tomorrow, we want to start felling the final four trees with the first being the pine behind the first stack.

We took two more down today with most of the first tree gone and then felled the second tree later in the day, I'll get rid of the second one tomorrow.

The third picture (enlarged photo) is next on the list, either tomorrow or Sunday.

We might fell another pine after we get the one down in the enlarged photo and then it will be time to dig out some stumps.

Picture 1400 is before I started the cleanup today and 1405 is after. I did lots of raking up small branches with pine needles and found an area to fill.

I cleaned up the forest floor so I could get the tractor in the back so I could buck up the pine branch and take it to the pine pile. Tomorrow I'll be working on the bigger piece of pine down with the hopes of moving that to the pile.

I also want to clean the branches up on that side so we'll be ready to fell the last four trees and then we'll have more cleanup.

#1 in the above picture is down with most of it bucked up but still out front, tomorrow I'll either split it there or move the rounds.

Once I get the above done I'll get one of the double trunk pine down which will leave me with the last trunk for the next day. It will be nice to have this job (felling) over with so I can do more cleanup and stacking.

I had to do some running around today so I didn't get much done.

I cleaned up the area some (2 small loads of branches) so I could buck up the last of the pine and then split it.

Attached are some better pictures of the double trunk pine but before that comes down, I'll stack the pine that's in the drop zone.

The area that I'm stacking will be our shoulder season wood for the fall of 2019, it should hold close to 1.86 cord of pine. Once I'm done with the stacking in this area we'll be two years ahead on our shoulder season wood with number three up before fall.

This double trunk pine will come down tomorrow which should end the felling in the area that the new garage will go.

I took care of half of the double trunk pine today, the first picture is after I felled the tree, the second is after the limbing and the last two is the Mahindra 4540 making it easier on the back.

Not pictured were two loads of branches moved to the chipping pile and another bucket load of pine.We plan on taking down the other trunk tomorrow.

I have more cleanup but except for a few more smaller pine this should be the last of the taller pine that we'll take down.

The skeeters are thick but I need to finish our shoulder season wood for the fall of 2019 so tomorrow I'll work on this pile for a few hours. The wood in the picture is all white pine.

I pulled a muscle in my back thinking I was in my 20's on Thursday so I've been taking it easy, by the way it felt today I'm thinking it will take another 3 or 4 days before I try a chainsaw.

I made a very small dent in the rounds of shoulder season wood today before I did a few other things.

Picture 1499 is what I started with, 1500 is what I split and 1501 is what's left. I should get another three hours of splitting in tomorrow and then I'll stack some.

I didn't split the other day because of the rain, I think we received over an inch of rain the last day an a half.

I was able to split more white pine today, hopefully this gets us two years ahead on our shoulder season wood.
