Hi everyone, I was cleaning my chimney and noticed the metal protruding. Its a Supreme Astra 38 fireplace that was installed 4 years ago with a new chinemy. I'm just wondering if this is dangerous or a normal part of the installation process. It seems to be where the connection of two pieces meet.

It needs fixed or replaced.

Fixing or replacing it would be difficult as the fireplace is incased in granite and the chinemy is surrounded by brick. Was this installed wrong? Is there any danger to continue using it like this? It's about 10 feet down the chinemy from the top.

I certainly could be dangerous

What would cause that to be dangerous? Just curious
The inner wall of your chimney is damaged it could allow smoke between the walls

Probably from the ridge on the cleaning rods snagging the lip and deforming it.

Or it not being installed correctly I never actually looked down with flashlight until now.
It's possible but that really looks like damage from cleaning
