General question- does duravent pellet pipe need to be sealed at the joints? If so, how and with what?

Stove specific question. When shoukd the exhaust fan turn on? It occurs to me that it should turn on immediately upon beginning the lighting to evacuate the smoke generated before the pellets actually ignite. It appears that that's not happening as that smoke comes out the joints on the vent pipe. Once the fire is going there is no smoke. I assume the exhaust fan kicks on and pushes the smoke out. The stove is vented to a 4" stainless liner in a masonry chimney.

According to duravent no they have gasket material in ends. In reality yes they need to be sealed, use high temp silicone tape to make it look good, aluminum tape if you can put it on smoothly, or High Temp RTV for a permanent seal.

When feeding cycle starts, push on button 3 seconds, stove goes to cleaning cycle then feeding cycle. You should be able to hear the blower start it is quite loud.

Venting into a cold chimney can sometimes be hard. After chimney warms up it draws better.

I had smoke spillage with mine till I sealed the joints with High temp silicone tape from lowes, it can be found in the plumbing section, I think sharkbite makes it.

As mentioned you should have a cleaning cycle first when powering on then it should start dropping pellets and lighting them with the blower on.

I have the same stove and it is a decent heater for its price point.
