I had my routine (age 54) colonoscopy last week, and it was pretty painful. I was supposed to be pretty out of it, but I remember a number of instances of significant pain followed by the anesthetist telling me to breathe and relax.
Afterwards I asked the doc what the story was, and he said "you have incredibly strong abdominal muscles!" I guess I tensed up, and that made things hurt.
I figure that the muscles are strong from splitting wood. So if you split your wood by hand, make sure the doc gives you more dope before sticking anything up your butt.
