Feeling the Heat

This is the first year I have had issues keeping the 600f STT. that is recommended by Hearthstone. Right now I'm running 660. How much damage can something like that cause? All I have to burn is seasoned high BTU wood. Oak,Hickory. 17 or so foot stack. Would adding a blower help keep the temps down?

There is nothing wrong or damaging with a 660 stovetop temp.

600 is close to where the soapstone will crack. On my III the top isn't the hot spot. It's the upper, front corners and the stones over the door,. I've seen them 100deg higher than the top.

The stone can take the heat easily it’s the innard cast iron parts they worry about once they reach around 1400 they can start to warp. Many say the outside temp is about half that of the inside so maybe hearthstone put a little fudge in that max temp. Woodstock says 700.

Good to know. I have no idea why hearthstone would designate 600f as the max temp because its almost impossible to to keep.

Probably because to people new to the stove and wood burning in general, it's easy to go from that temp to a temp that is dangerous.
