Lignetics (Idaho) quality gone down???

The last ton I bought this winter are a much lighter color and the pellets are shorter than the tons I bought this summer.
they leave a clumpy mess in the burn pot. I have to scrape it out. I have never seen this with Lignetic untill now.

Anyone else noticed this???

Hardwood or softwood?

Lignetics is now also packaging what is labeled as "Hardwood and Conifer." Looks like 3 different kinds now.

I just picked up a ton of the Hardwood this past week and the pellets are overall smaller with more broken up pieces than in my earlier tons; but, the color is about the same. My ton before that of Hardwood was lighter in color though. They all have burned excellent.

I bought anothe 30 bags after burning a flawless ton. What a difference. My stove is a mess in 2 days .
My ash pan is packed every 4 -5 hours worst that hammers ash.The heat output is less. Does anyone in this country make anything that is CONSISTANT !
Looks like the pellet fools will give this business away to the Chinese like every other business we have lost to them in this country including our AUTO INDUSTRY !

Interesting, I normally use Blazers which are great but have noticed about a good cup of sawdust in the bottom of each bag lately. I wonder if the materials used to make pellets vary in quality by season?

Same I am seeing with these newer Lignetics. ALOT OF DUST when pouring from bag to bucket and about a cup of dust at bottom of bag. It just stinks because you cant commit to just one brand and load up for the winter for the fear that you get a few crappy tons could make your winter season a nightmare !

this is intersting. You guy all look like your getting east coast lignetics and you are seeing changes there too. Our west coast pellets are softwood (fir) and I to see more dust. the color is definatly lighter and the Klinkers are a mess. My dealer is calling the to find out what up. No more lignetic for me untill I have answers

That's be a shame if Lignetics Idaho let their quality slip. They've been a reliable standard for many years. The fine count (sawdust) was usually very low with their pellets. Have you contacted them?

Well, I didn't think I'd have to post this about lignetics pellets, but I started burning a ton of the softwood (Idaho) pellets about 1/2 weeks ago. I thought there was something wrong with my stove, but after cleaning it well, I am getting the same thing people above have mentioned...CLINKERS.....and big ones. The heat output seems OK, though.

I now have to run the air at twice the opening I did with the NEWP hardwood, and for the first time all winter, I have to scrape the burnpot, and get the clinkers out once, and sometimes twice a day.....this isn't good.

I think I'll go out to the shed tomorrow and get 10 bags of the original Lignetics hardwood I burned in Oct/Nov, clean the stove again, and burn them to see what's up.

I'm NOT a happy camper >:-(

You seem to have gotten a bad batch of pellets. If you can, please take the remainder of that ton to the Northampton, PA pellet drop off center so I can burn....... uh, rather "dispose" of the rest of the pellets for you free of charge oink oink!

OK, calm down you pellet pigs....there will be no "disposing" of these softwood pellets just yet. I opened up the air control even more last night, and now seem to have the clinker issued solved......burning OK. PHEW!

I'm still going to switch to some Lignetics Hardwood later today to see what the difference is.....starting to think that the NEWP I burned most of the winter weren't so bad after all, although they make much more "fluffy" ash.....but I NEVER had a clinker, nor did I have to scrape the burn pot EVER! We'll see...........OINK OINK

unfortunately, pellets can only be as good as the sawdust/woodwaste that they are made out of. It is impossible to maintain consistency from a natural product. If it were man made, that would be one thing. But there are so many factors that can affect the quality of one tree vs another. it is a known fact that quality from one ton to another within the same brand can vary.

I've used Lignetics but not alot this season. If I'm desperate I will use them. However, my complaint about them is they leave this hard crusty ash on the burn pot. I haven't use them that much so I haven't had the problem you are talking about. They seem to leave more ashes than some of the softwood brands.

But the one poster is right on about the quality changing from ton to ton. I called one dealer and he said even the best premium brands can have poor quality bags once in a while. That's just great when you buy a ton or two and then you're STUCK!! I've been using Hamers and Turmans with a few Stove Chow's thrown in.

You can't find Turmans or Hamers anywhere.

Oh, Lignetics has always been dusty. Even the ones I used last year.

I think its the stove guys. Some stoves will burn anything well.

You are correct Firestarter. That's one reason why I got the Accentra. It will burn any quality pellet. Like some cars can use regular or high test.

I believe the intent of the comment was that some stoves burn one brand better (hotter, cleaner) than another, while another stove will burn the other brand better. There are many factors that come into play. ANY stove will burn ANY quality pellet...

i just bought half a ton of Lignetics last night. the hardwood and conifer mix...i hope i dont run into any problems with them. untill today i never read a bad thing about Lignetics pellets.We will see.

Regarding "Its the stove"

I have been burning Lignetics in this same stove for years. I can see the difference in the bags from this ton verses the last ton. I still have bags of both.
This is a quality control issue from the plant in Sandpoint Idaho. I have never had any klinkers and now they are so bad the eventually clog up the burn pot.
My dealer is trying to get some info. There have been 3 of us who have returned tons of pellets.

There are now also green lettered bags that say hardwood/conifer mix.

OK, now I'm curious....I'll have to go out and look tomorrow at the remaining Green letter bags I have in the shed. Lignetics website says nothing about any mix...still says green letter bags are hardwood.
