My parents raised us in a house heated with 2 wood stoves so of course when I purchased my house 10 years ago it was natural for me to do the same. We all burned lots and lots of wood until this season when my parents decided it was finally time for a pellet stove. They are over 70 now and their upstairs wood burner was getting tired. They decided to keep their PE Summit in the basement and replace the upstairs wood with a Harmon pellet! The beginning of the winter was a learning curve while they got used to burning pellets. They are on vacation and our house was unavailable for a book club we had scheduled...so off to Mom and Dad's we go! In the AM I went over and loaded up the stove and set it to 60, this would bring the house up from the 40 I am keeping it while they are gone. I then headed off to work 2 hours away. About an hour before people were due to arrive my buddy arrived and set the stove to 70, and by the time things got going it was very comfortable. This would never have worked with our wood stoves (although I did a burn in their PE while I was there). I was able to flip a switch in the AM, work all day and then have a warm house. Pretty cool.
