Probably some hyper ceramic coatings or some such thing (speculation). High insulation value and can stand uber temps (like the space shuttle tiles).Seems like it would be awful corrosive.
When talking heat storage think of salts as defined here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt_(chemistry) not necessarily as NaCl.
