1 was good, 1 was dead :( called them sending a call tag for the dead one and sending a new one out. pretty good customer service

i imagine by the time the second one arrives, you will have a place all picked out for it.

i started with one and knew exactly where the second would go.

since my stove went out havent got to try it yet

but are you using yours to blow the heat farther or the cold towards the stove ( or downstairs in my case )

so far with other fans i have had the best luck blowing the cold down the stairwell, but im hoping to pump some heat into an upstairs bedroom too

yeah. we have very different situations.
i have a single story linear layout ranch (925) sq. feet.
the back bedroom has a narrow path to it after the dining room and kitchen arches both have their way with the air flow.
then two door arches like three feet apart right at the bedroom.
so it's like baffles stopping the air all the way from the living room to the back bedroom.
i have one 510 in front of the stove (NOT TOO CLOSE!) and the second is in the upper corner of the doorway leaving the living room.
so i'm feeding the doorway fan a stream of warm air directly. and then shooting it into the upper level into the back bedroom.
the cold air returns on it's own down low.

it's nice that i can run them on low when things are warm and maintain temps once i reach them.
but it is great to have the power when reheating.
before i started doing this, the back bedroom was pretty much intractable to warming up very well.
now it's no problem.

sounds pretty much like mine but the bedroom is upstairs i have a narrow hallway the 2 doorways about 3 feet apart then all hell breaks loose lol the room is huge like 30x30 and 25 ft cathedral ceilings so the heat does have a long journey to get there but before that doorway i can get it to 68/70 with downstairs at 72/74

i don't love to admit mistakes. but i had the door fan hung in a way i was so proud of.
very slick for a fan that isn't made for that app. but i had it hung upside down to get the base up and out of the way.
don't do that. the oil leaks out of the motor. *sigh* just glad i caught it in a relatively short time.:(
flipped it around and all is well.

Thanks ! i already customized another desk fan that way so this was gonna replace that one! Guess plan B now :)

i am actually considering removing the base of that one entirely.
or perhaps just unscrewing it and flipping it around.
i really don't want to extract the cord from it's internal run through the base.
but with the base up and out of the way, i'ts damn nice. (as in pic below)
i just like having the power available that it sounds like a lot of corner fans don't have.
the tight column it sends out is nice too.

*just in case any readers missed it in the prior posts. do not hang a vornado upside down. the oil leaks out of the motor that way*

i'm sure if you're hanging it, you'll find your most preferred way to go about it.
this is what i did-

I ended up going cheap...

I went to Home Depot to get new weatherstripping for my the side door of my house, all part of my efforts to improve the insulation and make the house tighter. I decided to swing into Target right next door because they supposedly carried the Vornado's and I saw a posting on another site that people were getting the 510's for $20 on clearance.

They didn't have any Vornado fans, only heaters. But they did have two of the Honeywell brand Vornado knock-offs for $10 on clearance.

I couldn't resist, so I grabbed them both. I have one downstairs at the bottom of the steps blowing cold air up towards the living room where the stove is. The other is on the floor in my upstairs hallway blowing cold air towards the living room. I can already feel a difference and they have only been running for 20 minutes.

The model is HT-900. I am certain they aren't as good as the Vornado's but the price was right. I planned on keeping my eye open for another Vornado deal, because when I called they wouldn't honor the expired special.

ok im convinced now dont bother trying to blow hot air Blow the cold air the hot has to rise... my buddy was over tonight with a cigar as he followed me up the stairs i saw the smoke fly by me over my head and i mean fast followed the smoke right up the stairs down the hallway and flying into my bedroom

Right now i have a regular fan blowing out my doorway on the floor and the vornado at the stairs also blowing down the one thing i changed downstairs was the direction of the fan instead of having it reversed pulling the air up i have it blowing the air down which i think is forcing the heat out of my living room and up the stairway will change direction of things to find out if thats true

Both of my fans are blowing cold air towards the Mt. Vernon.

I just ventured downstairs to check temperaturs. My downstairs level is 70 now that I have the one fan down there blowing cold air up the stairs to the living room. It has not been that warm since I started running the stove. It's about 20 degrees right now outside. Other than yesterday, today is the coldest day so far this winter.

Upstairs here in my bedroom at the opposite end of the house from the stove location, it's currently 71 degrees. It's about 75 on the mid-level where the Mt. Vernon is at..

i'm sure i'd agree with you in cases involving two story layouts and probably many to most one story ones as well.

i just know pushing the hot air is working extremely well (best) in my case.
the same principle of convection is applying though. as the pushing is up high and isn't restricting the return path for the cold air.

Hi St Earl i think the key to your success is your grabbing the air close to the stove where it is HOT in my case i was blowing it up the stairway and the stove is one room over from there it was actually dropping temp upstairs for me trying it that way. this seems to be working great i jumped up 2 degrees so far in 20 minutes

yep. and the path down low from our back bedroom is pretty blocked in.
the air hits the side of the fridge (unavoidable) and creates so much disturbance that the warm air can't make it past.

as it is the warm air i deliver back there is actually still "pushing the cold back". so the principle is the same.
i have a nice convection loop going.
but yes. when i first started using the pellet stove, i tried a box fan on the floor pushing warm air back. very poor results doing that.

I have two Vornado 630's. My youngest son knocked one over and the blade broke. I contacted Vornado and they sent me a new replacement blade. Of course, it takes them weeks to respond to an email and then another couple of weeks before they actually ship, but overall, the customer service has been good.

Since my St.Croix is hooked up into the duct work, most of the heat goes into one of the bedrooms. I place one of the Vornado's in the doorway blowing the heat out into the rest of the house and it works well that way. I did try blowing the colder air into the bedroom but it wasn't as effective that way.
