I was just thumbing through Jotul website and noticed they have a newer, more compact woodburning insert for those with smaller fireplaces. It's called the C350 Winterport and it appears to be much lighter in weight compared to the Kennebec insert (272lbs. vs. 450lbs.), but still has the classic Jotul design. You may want to check it out if you're in the market. I'm guessing smaller size, and lighter weight, means lower price...
I did a ton of research and bought the C450 two weeks ago and it arrived two days ago but it's snowing and I can't get there to pick it up. Yes the C450 is heavier than the 350....the C450 weighs 450 pounds.....note the irony...LOL....
Anyway, I saw my C450 at the dealers and while it does weigh about 450 pounds, you don't have to move all that weight at once......the pallet weighs about 10-15 pounds, the surround comes in two separate packages, the 2-doors are removed from the unit in about 5 seconds each, many of the internal firebricks are easily removed....all told, the removable stuff and the pallet probably weighs about 200 pounds.....thus (I'm guessing) making the unit itself movable by two average sized guys.......at least that's what I'm hoping!!
I did remove and heft the doors of a display unit, I lifted both surround packages and one of the fire bricks so I know there's a LOT of weight there in those items alone and they can be moved individually so the unit itself is a lot lighter........
