My opinion is - it is very hard to go wrong with a Jotul F500 Oslo or the F600 Firelight if in good shape.
Check out the stove and let us know what you decide - you might get more $$$'s off the price since spring is here and warm weather is on us.

Remkel said:I just bought a new F600- not familiar with the old models, but have yet to hear of someone complaining about them.....as mentioned earlier, a thorough inspection is needed but the price seems good.
xman23 said:Ray, The top loader / cat version had a foot pedel to open the top, don't see it in the picture. That version was being made 10 years ago when I bought the Oslo. The newer version may not be much more than 5 years old. I haven't priced them in years but I guess 2000, 2500. Lets see what Remkel paid.

Remkel could you tell me what it costs for this stove new?

summit said:It's a non cat F600.. you can tell becuz the removable handle is stuck in the side load door.. if it was a CAT unit, then there is no side door (they only made CAT units top load). This is the previous non-cat version of the current production: only differences is the side load door on the current version has a fixed side door handle... the removable handle now only works the front door... and the newer version has a handle on the ashpan.. this older noncat version in the ad has a chrome loop that a seperate ashpan handle inserted into to open the ashpan door.
xman23 said:Summit very good detective work. I didn't know of the older F600 non cat before the cat version. So I know the cat was made 10 years ago, so this stove is older than that. But it's a Jotel, if it hasn't been over fired it can be a real nice stove. My Oslo is now 10 years old, and I haven't done a thing to it, and it's as good as new.

Hope it wasn't one of our buddies here that beat you to the stove. I admit I did look-up the address. That looked like a nice stove. So about my Oslo, it heats my place with plenty of heat to spare even on the coldest nights. The house is chalet with cathedral ceilings and a open floor plan. The room with the stove is a bit warmer than the back bedrooms, but not by much.
