Hello All,
Posting my second question, after a few months ago asking stove recommendations. Well I chose the Jotul 45.
Had my 35ft chimney relined with an insulated flexible flue and a new granite hearth installed. The stove backs up into an old brick fireplace and sets directly against the wall.
Questions:
The stove has a rear heat shield, with double wall connector and pipe, so I assume touching the brick in back is ok?
Should the installer have put in a cleanout above the stove for future sweeps?
The manual says I need 16" of clearance on the right hand side, I only have 13. What size heat shield do I need?
Thanks,
Ray

Welcome Ray. No problem with the back touching the brick in a fireplace. The side clearance may not be an issue either if there are no combustibles on the door side. If you can post some pictures that will help. How is the clearance to the mantel?

Hi Ray, I have been running my f45 for 3 years now. Great stove!! My stove is about 3" from my rear brick wall. With the stove
running at 600 deg, the rear wall never get's more than warm to the touch.. You should have no problem!

BUT, YOU MUST HAVE DRY WOOD!!!!

Hey thanks for the replies,
Just remeasured side clearance to my sheetrock and it's 15". The manual says that's ok . Got confused after having to reinstall the United after the incompetent installers left.
Manual also says 4" clearance to the back. Hope I don't fail inspection.

Nice install! I noticed a steamer on top, do you have that on a trivet?

The back is 4" from combustibles, your fireplace wall is noncombustible, you will be fine, the only thing that makes me slightly nervous about the install is the 35ft tall chimney, I would call a professional sweeper to measure the draft, you could potentially have an excessive draft issue that can cause the stove to over fire even if the air is set to the lowest setting, also poor (faster than normal) burn times with excessive coaling could also accompany this setup due to the tall chimney.

wow thanks for the warning. there is a very strong draft. just finished my breakin burns and even with small kindling it was roaring. what can be done to reduce the draft??

thanks! I did not have the trivet on top for my last break in burn, wanted the thermometer dead center. but I do have the trivet and will use it.

Install a key damper in the stove pipe. Open it for loading and startups and close it once the fire is burning robustly.

Handsome heater!

Beautiful stove on a wonderful looking piece of stone. You should truly enjoy that heater.
