Greetings All! We just fired up our new Jotul F500 v3 wood stove this week and quickly discovered that we would benefit from a fan. I know that I will have to add a Rear Heat Shield 154332. My question to you:

Are there alternatives to using the Jotul Blower 156431? For example, a Dayton or other reliable manufactured high-heat stove fan?

Thank you Todd. I tried that with our Hearthstone stove (24" away on the right side) and it melted the plastic housing. I have <10" behind the stove.

Why do you think it needs a fan?

Id try to keep it stock for now and order the Jotul parts. Aftermarket could work but you are likely going to have to call manufacturers and maybe even modify the stove or blower

Thank you EbS-P. The air isn't circulating well throughout the 1st floor. It's very warm within 6-8' of the stove, but much cooler elsewhere on the 1st floor.
That’s a house airflow issue IMO. Yes a stove blower helps. But it’s really designed to get heat out of the stove. So unless you said I’m running 600+ degree stove top temps look at ways to enhance air circulation by slowing move cold air towards the stove.

I have a question for clarification. So the fan's purpose isn't to push / circulate warm air throughout the living space?

It helps some. But there are better ways to circulate air around the house. Most free standing stoves don’t offer the blowers.

You want to put a fan on the floor of the cold area on low blowing the dense cold air towards the stove. This will create a convection loop.
That would definitely be a “cheap fix”. Thank you!

From the feedback I’ve received, think I will try a fan independent of the stove. I also have a fan box on being about 5-6’ away, so might also try a ceiling fan.

Move the box fan farther away, into the next room if possible as long as it can still point at the stove room opening. Run it on the floor at low speed.

That would definitely be a more cost-effective solution that buying the rear heat shield and blower for $700-900.
This is what I have on the floor behind my stove. At speed 3 it’s completely silent. I don’t run above 4 unless I have an over fire. Has a clunky interface but with the remote temp sensor you can find just the right place so it’s basically set it on forget it.

And yours isn't mounted to the stove? Just sitting on the floor pointed to the back of stove?
