Hi,

I purchased a used Jotul F 100 through Facebook marketplace. I'd like to convert it from top-vent to rear-vent. The manual just says to "reach through the flue collar and remove the two bolts"... yeah right, I can barely get my hand in there let alone spin a socket handle. I tried for over an hour using this technique and gave up for fear that I would just round over the bolt heads by pulling sideways on the wrench too much.

So it looks like I need to remove the baffle plate to get to those bolts. However, the baffle appears to be captive and I cannot get it out for the life of me. I removed the two side "burn plates" as directed in the manual, but the clearance just isn't there. I've tried sliding it both left and right, forward and back, it has a play of about 1 cm in each direction but does not clear the shelf on the other side. Are there any tips to this or am I just going to have to disassemble the whole stove?

Thanks for any advice.

The top should be removable and gasketed if it is like other Jotuls. I just checked and verified. There should be 2 bolt on the underside holding it down. I thought the baffle just lifts up, then tilt and pull out but if it's warped it can get wedged in tight.

Hi @begreen, Yeah, I can see that the top is gasketed but I don't see the bolts holding it on, is it possible I'd need to remove the baffle to access those as well?

So if the baffle is meant to be removable and just stuck there due to warping, I suppose I could use my grinder to shave a tiny bit off the tab that's holding the baffle up there, then it might just squeeze by...

Edit to add: the baffle doesn't really appear to be warped, actually the whole stove is in really good condition, but I guess it must be deformed just enough to be stuck in place.

I don't think the bolts are that far back but could be mistaken. Before grinding anything, maybe give the baffle a tap with a soft mallet.
