[Hearth.com] Is this creosote dripping from the wall thimble?
We just installed our older squirrel stove, and did a 3 day long continuous test burn. We currently are waiting for the correct thermometer that will go through the double wall pipe to arrive in the mail today ( I ordered the wrong one at first). We are new to burning and so I am wondering if this is due to not burning hot enough fires? Or if there may be another issue. We made sure everything was level and that the horizontal pipe was angled up a quarter inch for every foot. Should we let the fire die and take the piping off and clean it, it’s only been running for 3 days. Firewood is seasoned mixed hardwood. Help!

Oh yes, sorry my bad! So my set up is as follows. About 22” of wall Duravent pipe vertical out of the stove to a 90 elbow with about 18” of horizontal double wall going to meet the chimney pipe at the thimble going through 2x4 walls. The chimney is all triple insulated stainless steel pipe with a 9 inch piece connected to the tee and passing through the wall. Everything sealed from the outside. We had to make a frame for the tee on the outside due to roof clearance but we made sure to seal it up well with silicone sealant and then high temp sealant around the tee where is goes into the exterior thimble. Picture of the outside below! We live on a hill and get very cold winds blowing on that side of the house. We did it on that side to avoid any electrical wires running on the other side of the cabin. Let me know if there are any other info I could provide to help!

Not tall enough chimney from what I see and that 90 is going to kill draft as well.
How would we avoid a 8

Its at least 2 feet above any roof material within 10 feet, how much higher would it need to be? Also how would it be possible to avoid a 90 elbow without passing the stove pipe through the roof?

While anything less than straight up has an effect, many chimneys work fine with a connection such as yours. How tall IS your chimney. It DOES look short. What is the recommended height for your stove?
Have you monitored your stove top temps?
After just three days I wouldnt take it all apart but I would test your wood moisture content and monitor the stove top temp (STT).
Can the bottom of the T be opened? I would want to look inside the chimney.
There's a ton of info on this site...take some time and look around.
Good luck!

Looks like a 2b classic stove, the current version recommends 16’ from stove top to chimney cap.

Only good reason I can think of not to go straight up through the roof is if there are multiple floors to pass through where a chase just wouldn’t work out.

With what you already have you can’t do much about the 90 outside. You may be able to do the inside with (2) 45s if you have enough room between the stove top and thimble.

It does look short outside too to me.

Did it burn well or did you have to fuss with it and it did a lot of smoldering?

Barring a moisture meter, can you define what "seasoned" means for you?

Can we get a better pic of the stove pipe? Not the chimney but the inside pipe.

I'm curious to see if it's installed backwards.
