This tree is probably around 50 years old. Largest Japanese Maple Ive ever seen. Recently noticed tree limbs dying and a concerning ooze that looks like melted milk chocolate. Behind thr ooze, the wood is very soft. I can poke holes into it with a twig.

Is it infected? Saveable?
Seeing other limbs with splits forming.

Japanese maples don't always live more than 40 or 50 years. And droughts in my area have taken many in the last ten years. They do not seem drought resistant.
