Looking to insulate around my insert. Local big box doesn't have Roxul board. Would any brand mineral wool board suffice?

It's ok to insulate the sides and back but not the top. Is there a block-off plate sealing off the damper area?

Yup, got block off plate. Just looking to insulate the block/brick sides and back. Trying to get more efficiency out of the insert.

Does your insert have fire brick? If yes, do you know if the brick is hard or soft and would a soft pumice fire brick be an advantage for you?

No idea what the bricks are made of. They are original, came in the insert. Century CW2900 insert from 2016. I should check and see what they are. Trying to prevent the fireplace surround from absorbing any heat.

My QuadraFire insert had a pumice like brick. It is my understanding the light pumice like brick is insulating and does not permit as great heat transfer as the more solid/rigid/ ceramic brick. Maybe one of the local experts can chime in.

Yes, it has pumice bricks (they are actually made from pumice). So does our stove. I think this is to keep the firebox hotter for more complete combustion.
