I am converting an old zero clearance wood burner to gas. The chase runs up the exterior of the home and is currently insulated to the first level of the home but not above.

I figured I would just frame a false ceiling at the current insulation height and re-insulate with new batts, vapor barrier and sheetrock all around then vent horizontally out the back of the chase.

Thinking about it has got me concerned that the closed off, dead air part of the chase will end up with condensation problems and the wood will rot out.

Curious what the right way to go at this specific issue is.
Would i be best off insulating the entire chase and venting the new gas stove out the current chimney cap?
If I do close off the chase, should I cap the chimney, or leave the current chimney vent in place as an outlet for any warm, moist air that gets in there?

Thanks for your help.
